Στην Τσανάκλειο στεγαζόταν η Γενική Διοίκηση Θράκης (1922 – 1954) και η Νομαρχία Ροδόπης (1954 – 1972). Αργότερα και μέχρι πρόσφατα στεγαζόταν εκεί η Πρυτανεία του Δημοκρίτειου Πανεπιστημίου Θράκης
